By naming it “public domain”, and not public facilities nor public services, we intend to widen
our scope of sight, and to frame and identify what makes Taichung so special : its public spaces qualify its urban quality.
The City Cultural Centre integrates such a frame, and plays a prominent role : it is a major element of content if its identity : fine arts, knowledge, historical background, and innovative perspective; well set in front of the Gateway Park, the CCC will be a major landmark in the new
Starting with Taichung’s humid subtropical weather, our proposal assumes an iconic form to respond to this specific climate – a form that protects from the sun by producing shade and at the same time allows the air to circulate between its shapes, generating fresh in-between spaces.
